Jim Legxacy releases ‘HNPM’ mixtape
HNPM mixtape – Out Now
“The rapper-producer’s new mixtape creates its own solar system…there’s an urgency and freshness to his approach that gives it a golden shine.”
7.8 Pitchfork
“A distinctly unique and thrilling listen. This ambitious new mixtape sees the enigmatic star bend a mix of emo, Afropop, hip-hop and club beat styles to his off-kilter will”
***** NME
“On paper, Legxacy’s kaleidoscope of genres shouldn’t work. But the secret to his flawless marshalling of sounds can be explained by a resolute understanding of each genre”
Dazed
“In Legxacy’s world R&B vocals sit atop Midwest emo guitars and flashes of U.K. drill samples in a mash-up of styles that makes the original song sound like its own remix.”
The FADER
Lewisham’s Jim Legxacy today releases his new, much anticipated mixtape HNPM. In support of the release Jim will share visualisers shot by regular collaborator Fidel on his socials in the coming days, the first for ‘ur marges crib’ will drop later today.
A one of a kind self-taught, self-produced talent who has already proved a total disruptor in London’s music scene, Jim has built a strong fanbase over a handful of early releases, and defies every box people have attempted to force him into. Jim’s unique and arresting sound which draws a thread between r’n’b, pop, grime, midwest emo, afro beats and alternative, marks him as one of the most exciting new artists the UK has to offer.
This new project looks set to keep those early fires of intrigue burning bright as Jim offers further insight into his maverick musical mind. Alongside frequent collaborator Fidel and Jim’s wider creative South London family, the full HNPM package is an instinctively created cultural curveball that simply no one else out there is doing right now.
As Jim explains it’s “a collection of all the songs & demos i started whilst i was homeless. thank u for everyone that gave me a place to sleep, record and create.”
At just 22, Jim Legxacy’s already extraordinary rise is only just beginning. Growing up in South East London, in a tight knit household of Nigerian descent, music has always formed part of Jim’s identity. Jim’s artistic journey properly began in 2018, dropping multiple singles and two longer form projects (Dynasty, Citadel) which displayed his artistic growth, versatility, and vulnerability, all whilst battling homelessness. Jim’s approach to music has been that of an open book, sharing demos direct to fans on TikTok and allowing his audience to experience the creation process as he does, creating an organic and direct relationship between him and his audience. Jim has already garnered support and cosigns from fellow artists including Dave, Stormzy, Central Cee, Headie One, Skepta, Loski and Jack Harlow.
