Joey Valence & Brae have today dropped brand new album, NO HANDS. The larger-than-life, DIY rap duo have also shared new single ‘PACKAPUNCH’, which features Danny Brown and received its first play on Jack Saunders’ BBC Radio 1 show. Fresh from a sold out headline tour in support of viral project PUNK TACTICS, JVB followed arena dates supporting Sum 41 this spring before announcing their epic NO HANDS headline tour, with 18 UK/EU shows including London’s Village Underground and an extensive US leg kicking off this autumn. Artist presale opens from June 11th, with tickets available for general release on June 14th.
Over the last couple of years, Joey Valence & Brae have gone from college kids to independent sensations, with 200+ million streams, 1.3 million social followers, and a young fanbase that’s as inclusive of punk kids or metalheads as it is hip-hop and pop culture stans. New album NO HANDS is as clear a statement of intent as it is a creative leveling-up, with Danny Brown collaboration ‘PACKAPUNCH’ just one shoot-your-shot moment. Having slid into the Detroit rapper’s DMs only to find out he was already a fan, ‘PACKAPUNCH’ was recorded in one take, guerilla-style, in Brown’s hotel room after a show. Peppered with the boys’ eclectic blend of interests – Star Wars, Olivia Rodrigo, Nando’s – and a natural fit with Danny Brown’s own incendiary energy, it’s Joey Valence and Brae at that next level, riding NO HANDS.
Like all the best buddy movies, Joey and Brae’s meet-cute began at a Red Lobster: they were hanging with mutual friends Freshman year at Penn State, and connected as fellow misfits but also, equal music obsessives. Finding common ground everywhere from Wu Tang to The Prodigy and Charli XCX, their collective taste is omnivorous and genre-agnostic, with humour, energy and a positive attitude that completely stands the band out. It’s a relationship which evidently flourishes on NO HANDS, which was recorded in just a month and goes harder into what Joey Valence & Brae are all about. From tongue-in-cheek confidence booster ‘THE BADDEST’ to the soulful, Tribe Called Quest affirmations of ‘NO HANDS’, here is a record about betting on yourself, set against the joyful, kitchen-sink sound of figuring that out in real-time.
In the band’s own words, NO HANDS is “a reflection of what we’ve built over the past three years. It’s important for our fans to be like, these two kids built this on their own, and you can do the same exact thing. You don’t have to try and act cool: just be yourself and that’s cool as shit.”
