Joy Crookes shares video for new single ‘Hurts’

Joy Crookes Shares video for new single ‘Hurts’New EP – ‘Perception’ – out now on Insanity Recordings / Speakerbox

Performing at Glastonbury – Sunday, Pussy Parlure @ 4pm+ live from Glastonbury on BBC 2 on Saturday afternoon from the BBC Treehouse.

As she currently prepares to make the pilgrimage to Worthy Farm, Joy Crookes today unveils her entrancing new video for current single ‘Hurts’. The video was directed and produced by The Rest (the team behind all of slowthai’s videos) and premiered early today on Fader.

Taken from her recently released ‘Perception’ EP, ‘Hurts’ (which was written with UK rapper & producer Jevon) is the latest dazzling single from London’s finest new voice Joy Crookes. While across the EP, Joy carefully observes the world around her – relationships, family and the city she lives in – ‘Hurts’ pivots around a once strong, now failing female friendship and delves into what can happen when those tightly knit bonds start to unravel. The over-riding resolve of ‘Hurts’ is to move on from the things that bring drama and heartache to your door, wherever it comes from. The accompanying video is spell-bindingly good, picking up on this idea and transforming it into visual excellence and finding Joy giving a lesson in how you might choose to dispel bad vibes from your life. On making the video for ‘Hurts’, Joy says – “My latest video, Hurts, is inspired by the Frank Ocean song ‘Nights’ and the specific lyric in it “Did you call me from a séance? You are from a past life.”  I lost touch with an old friend last year who I knew I was better off without. The breakdown of this friendship is the story behind the track. I took the chance with this video to show a different side of my personality, I had the room to be cheekier, more angry and dance in front of a camera – which is all very new to me. I linked up with some of my favourite directors, The Rest, who took all these threads and pulled the vision together.”
