“… the duo’s collaborative music video for King’s “Anthropomorph” is a harmonious conversation between two artists who speak a similar language, although they work in different disciplines.”
– The Creators Project
“It’s a beautiful thing when two entirely different art forms fit so well together that the boundaries between vision and sound, hand and ear, line and note, begin to blur. We’re feeling that particular kind of synesthesia…” – Huffington Post
“Possessing the uncanny ability to create visceral scenes with a single instrument, King dispels any notion of singer-songwriters as one-track minded.” – Consequence of Sound
Today Kaki King releases her highly anticipated new album, A Neck Is A Bridge to the Body, via Short Stuff Records. Provocative and moving, surprising and beautiful, The Neck… deconstructs and redefines the role of a solo instrumental artist through virtuoso technique, insatiable imagination, and boundless humanity. This album is a companion piece to Kaki’s new groundbreaking new multi-media performance, which uses projection mapping to present the guitar as an ontological tabula rasa in a creation myth unlike any other.
“She does amazing things with the simple six-string: she slaps the wood, rubs the strings and hammers her fingers over the frets. In short, she treats her guitar like a percussion instrument, creating a sound that one reviewer describes as ‘somewhere between funk and flamenco.’” – NPR
“Kaki King is quickly solidifying her position in that elite group of musicians that can sit onstage for an hour with nothing but a guitar and keep the crowd entertained.” – Glide Magazine
“There are some guitar players that are good, and there are some guitar players that are really fucking good. And then there’s Kaki King.” – Dave Grohl, Music Radar
The Neck is a Bridge to the Body uses an Ovation Adamas 1581-KK Kaki King Signature 6-String Acoustic guitar customized specifically for this production. The show was produced in collaboration with Glowing Pictures – known for their work with such artists as Animal Collective, David Byrne & Brian Eno, Beastie Boys, and TV On The Radio.
