Kaki to Perform Groundbreaking New Work,

The Neck is a Bridge to the Body

LIVE@ Rough Trade NYC, May 21

(NOTE: No Post-Production Effects Were Used in this Video)

“The King Is Dead; Long Live The New King. Last week, the guitar world lost its king, when B.B. King passed away at age 89. But another King is currently touring with a show that completely reimagines the guitar – as both a musical instrument and an artistic canvas.” -WNYC Soundcheck

It’s a beautiful thing when two entirely different art forms fit so well together that the boundaries between vision and sound, hand and ear, line and note, begin to blur. We’re feeling that particular kind of synesthesia…”Huffington Post

“Kaki King is a different kind of hero: Largely eschewing aural pyrotechnics, she’s widened the interpretive range of the guitar through exploration and collaboration… [now] she transforms her very ax into a projection screen.”TimeOut

King’s evocative performance was a sumptuous feast for the senses, a dizzying display of sound and vision by a guitarist already renowned for her innovation.” Boston Globe

Calling Kaki King a guitarist does her a disservice. The post-rock composer and musician is a consummate performance artist who does things to her instrument most self-identified guitarists could never even imagine, much less replicate.”Washington City Paper

“Surface Changes” is the latest video to emerge from Kaki King’s groundbreaking new work, The Neck is a Bridge to the Body, produced in collaboration with Dawn of Man Productions. This visually striking video, which premiered on WNYC’s “Soundcheck”, perfectly captures King’s dynamic live show.

Using the body of the guitar as an alternative projection screen, image and sound converge to enhance one another and offer the audience a renewed musical experience. King’s emotive composition is highlighted using images that allow listeners to be moved by and with the music. The end result is an incredibly imaginative, provocative, and beautiful presentation by Kaki King.

The renowned guitarist and composer brings the same commanding inspiration to her live show of ‘The Neck is a Bridge to the Body’.  The artist hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself” will be performing at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on May 21 and be sure to check out King’s new video for ‘The Surface Changes’.
