The collaboration between the two longtime labelmates came about when Basin Street Records asked them to create an album to celebrate their 20th anniversary. With the help of nearly 60 musicians including Rebirth Brass Band, Jason Marsalis, Dr. Michael White, Bill Summers, Haley Reinhart, George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Cyril Neville (The Neville Brothers), and Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Tremé) the two created this stunning release that explores the history of New Orleans music through various configurations, and trail blazes new sounds that redefine the meaning of New Orleans music.

Kermit Ruffins just kicked off the new Sounds of New Orleans series from the New Orleans Pelicans Team and performed at half-time with Irvin Mayfield for the home-opener to great reception. He will return to Tipitina’s on November 4 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the recording of The Barbecue Swingers Live, the first album ever released on Basin Street Records. The show will include performances by Irvin Mayfield with Cirque du Freque and Saràyah.
