Kevin Devine is now streaming the music video for his single “No History” via Billboard. The video, directed by Hayley Kosan, features an acoustic performance of the single “No History” comes off of his 9th studio album Instigator, out October 21st via Procrastinate! “Last fall, after ‘No History’ had been written but before it was recorded, I had a meeting up by Rockefeller Center, and decided to walk downtown instead of get right back on the train to Brooklyn. Somewhere down around W. 4th St., I looked up and kept noticing the way the Freedom Tower just kinda hangs over everything, how you have a pretty clear shot of it all the way down 6th Avenue, 7th Ave. South. It reminded me of that day, how the smoke did the same thing, and I had this idea about playing the song somewhere out there, in its shadow, and filming it. That idea moved around a million times and became this video, filmed instead in a friend’s 56th floor apartment, wraparound windows, above almost everything, but still looking up at the tower, and then later, down on the street, along Fulton and Nassau. I like that it is solemn and subtle, tonally suitable & a counterpoint to the recorded version, adding by subtraction.” – Kevin Devine
