After its premiere on Radio 1’s Breakfast Show Kiko Bun has shared details of his new single ‘Can’t Hold Back’, available now on Island Records.

Following in the footsteps of previous single ‘Sticky Situation’ that saw Kiko pick up plays across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra and amass over 750,000 streams on Spotify, ‘Can’t Hold Back’ sees the North-West-London-based, soul & roots singer-songwriter offer up another winning and authentic blend of hip-hop, soul and the sun-kissed reggae that courses through his sound.

Drawing from a lifelong obsession with reggae, dancehall, 90’s hip-hop and the lyricism of Big L, Mobb Deep, Big Pun, The Pharcyde and Pete Rock & CL Smooth, there has always been a story-telling element to Kiko’s songs. Even from first listen, his clear vocal style and natural delivery draws attention to the tales that weave through his music. “I love music that paints a picture clear enough to understand, but not so clear that it feels specific to me. It should be as though your story and mine overlap, and that sometimes we can all find ourselves in the same picture, together.”

With big basslines and funky drum breaks reminiscent of timeless party anthems by Cypress Hill, combined with Kiko’s distinct vocal and the mini-narratives of his lyrics, ‘Can’t Hold Back’ brings to mind glorious London summer afternoons, just as the sun just begins to weaken and time feels like it’s slowing. This laidback and inviting feel to his music has seen Kiko confidently building a fanbase at festivals over the summer including including British summer time w/ Massive Attack, Camp Bestival, Bestival, Reading and Leeds, as well as his own single launch show on July 13th at Electrowerks.
