King Isis shares new single ‘LATELY’ from forthcoming EP SIRENITY

California-born and raised artist King Isis (they/she) recently announced their new EP SIRENITY to be released June 13 via Dirty Hit and No Matter. Following the grunge-driven freefall of “PERMANENTLY BROKEN” earlier this month, they share another dimension to the unfurling project: ‘LATELY’ is a radical act of vulnerability, beginning as a quiet confession before building to hell-raising purge of the constraints of perfection.

Co-produced with Bartees Strange, Isis says of the track: ‘“Lately’ is a cathartic release. The recognition that perfection doesn’t exist, that I don’t want to keep going through the motions and acceding to the same things. It’s sick of the same cycles, the same people and the same responses. It’s wanting to stand up for myself, wanting to live for me, even if it defies others expectations. It’s the introduction to new worlds, and new unknowns, allowing myself to the beauty of imperfection, of trial and error. That it’s okay to not be okay and try things. Its renewal and cyclic changes at the beginning of Saturn return.” 

Last year, King Isis released the R&B rock-infused shed heavily influenced by Gloria E. Anzaldúa’s seminal text Borderlands/La Frontera and its examination of the serpent as a metaphor and theme of renewal. The five tracks followed up the brighter debut EP scales in 2023 and with SIRENITY out in June – which sees King Isis connect with Bartees Strange, Monte Booker, Greyskiin and Estelle Allen as co-collaborators – it’s the continuation of the worlds created within the last two projects and serves as the (un)completion of the trilogy. Blending  alt-pop, acoustic and grunge, they return to the beginning of renewal and accept their imperfections from a light-hearted perspective.

ABOUT KING ISIS….

Born and raised in Oakland, CA, King Isis (they/she) shape-shifts through sound, blending rock, pop, and whatever else feels right in the moment. Their music moves through pain, growth, and transformation, always circling back to self. Music has been in their blood for generations, learning piano on the keys once played by their great-great-grandmother Omega King, one of the first Black opera singers in Chicago. After years of stringent classical training, they broke free to explore the outer edges, creating music for the misfits and weirdos, for those living outside the margins.

King Isis has been carving out their own lane as a queer alt fairy in the indie space. Since dropping their debut EP scales in 2023, they’ve landed on coveted Spotify playlists, been named a Tidal Rising Artist, and featured on Pigeons & Planes’ SYNY2 compilation. Isis has graced the stages of internationally renowned festivals such as Outside Lands, Afropunk, and London Calling, as well as toured the U.S. with The Last Dinner Partyand Mehro. In 2025, they’ve taken the stage opening for powerhouses like The Japanese House, Duckwrth, and Bartees Strange.

Their latest EP, SIRENITY, is a collection of imperfect pieces, unserious and self-deprecating at times, but rooted in reflection, renewal, and the constant cycle of becoming. A continuation of the worlds built in scales and shed, this new chapter expands the sound with collaborators like Bartees Strange, Monte Booker, Greyskiin, and Estelle Allen mixing alt-pop, acoustic, and grunge into something that feels raw and real.
