KIRAN LEONARD UNVEILS FILM FOR “PINK FRUIT I”
“(a) frankly bizarre video” – TLOBF premiere
“Away from those pernicious “big in 2016” lists designed to reward commercial potential rather than creative adventure, a singular new talent is being forged” – The Guardian
ANNOUNCES BIGGEST EVER TOUR TO DATE, INCLUDING 4TH APRIL DATE @ THE LEXINGTON, LONDON
NEW ALBUM GRAPEFRUIT RELEASED 25TH MARCH 2016 ON MOSHI MOSHI
Kiran Leonard has announced his biggest ever tour to date in support of his forthcoming new album Grapefruit (out 25th March on Moshi Moshi). Backed by a full band, the jaunt includes headline shows at Soup Kitchen, Manchester (30th March) and The Lexington, London (4th April).
Last week, Kiran played four rapturously-received sold out concerts. “He attacks this show with a relatively conventional four-piece band, but leads them through some hair-raising tempo changes, alternately stroking and strangling his guitar or detuning it mid-song… Saddleworth’s anti-Jake Bugg is a gawky but compelling presence” said The Guardian, in their four-star review of the London show.

To celebrate, Kiran has unveiled a brand new video for current single “Pink Fruit I.” The track has been a mainstay of BBC Radio 6 Music’s playlist this month and forms part of a larger 16 minute piece, the centrepiece of new album Grapefruit. The video was premiered by The Line Of Best Fit, who described it as “frankly bizarre.”
MUSIC VIDEO FOR “PINK FRUIT I”. SYNOPSIS:
Two people, inexplicably dressed in Georgian attire and looking for love, meet by chance at a mutual friend’s get together and begin a romance that is thwarted by the cephalopod in all of us.
The more perceptive of those watching will notice that, while the song describes a squid sat in the woman’s hollowed out abdomen, the video features an octopus, entering through the bedroom door to sneak up on the male protagonist.
This is no minor detail: here, its appearance signifies the universal over the self-perceived and unhealthily self-internalised. Scrutinising the scrutiniser. So let it out the aquarium. Reassessing its presence helps build our confidence and teaches us not to judge others.
It was also a lot easier to shoot it this way.
