Kitten Pyramid – ‘Uh Oh’ (Out July 22nd)

‘Uh Oh’ is the debut single from experimental rockers Kitten Pyramid. It also is the first offering from their album, also called ‘Uh Oh’, recorded at legendary Rockfield Studios (home of Queen, Oasis, Coldplay and the Stone Roses etc) with their producer Nick Brine who has also worked with all of the aforementioned artists.

The title track introduces another world were punk can seamlessly bleed into classic and psychedelic rock sensibilities. Amongst their influences you notice Talk Talk, Exit Music, Swans and I guess Mothers of invention period Frank Zappa, all of whom ere no strangers to the pursuit of something new, remembered or just different. ‘Uh Oh’ is not new, more familiar soundscapes over an out of the ordinary song structure. It’s Soundclash Jim, but not as we know it. But with alt-rock, then punk breaks into acoustic MOR to full on  psychedelic fusion, before a trumpet and piano outro.

Kitten Pyramids should charm the plaudits with ‘Uh Oh’, not only for for the band and and production, but also for their approach and their execution. An intriguing debut single, a crooked sign post that works well. 8/10
