Kröwnn – Hyborian Age (PRC Music)
Kröwnn are a three piece doom metal outfit from the beautiful land of Venice which for you uncultured individuals is located in Italy. Despite its beauty and elegance there is obviously something moody in the water for a band such as Kröwnn to be able to create such heavy music.
I for one am not a great fan of the genre that is pigeon holed as doom but I am a great lover of a heavy riff and songs that are filled to the brim with groove. Thankfully Krownn have captured my heart by having this six track release filled with what can only be described as “riffage”.
I also have a great respect for any band who set out to make music as a three piece as they are at an initial down step and only a handful of bands that are three pieces have been able to make it to the big leagues. This has been due to their musicianship and chemistry which I can tell Krownn possess by listening to Hyborian Age from start to finish half a dozen times today.
Interesting lyrics also add to the dynamic of Kröwnn. Instead of writing songs about heart break and generally cliché topics Krownn have actually incorporated the workings of famous authors into their lyrics.
If you are a fan of doom then this little Italian three piece are for you. 7.8/10
