Lafawndah Remixes Andrea Balency’s ‘Crystals’

Available for digital purchase on Jan 19th via Bataille Music

“You’re calling me, but I can never see you,” calls Andrea Balency in a soft-focus falsetto on her stand-out tune ‘Crystals.’ The Franco-Mexican’s spacious electronic pop stays firmly in this realm of fantasy, and so there’s no one better to remix it than recent RBMA graduate Lafawndah with Berlin-based producer Tamer Fahri. The duo stretch Balency’s original out into a dream sequence that gradually gets more and more lucid: think the kind of dream that shifts suddenly from passive to active. Expect surreal textures and sinister turns.’ – [Premiered by] Abeano

‘Crystals’ is taken from Andrea Balency’s debut EP ‘Walls,’ which is released for the first time on  vinyl on 9th Feb 2015 (available digitally now)

After a breakthrough 2014, the Franco-Mexican sweet-soul-pop singer & electronic musician Andrea Balency welcomes the new year with a brand new remix of a key highlight from her 2014 EP ‘Walls’ (out now digitally – due for vinyl release on 9th Feb 2015).

Andrea Balency’s ‘Crystals’ this time gets the remix treatment from rising zouk/dancehall artist Lawfawndah – hotly tipped for 2015. A Paris-raised singer with Egyptian, Iranian and English heritage there is none more perfect to compliment Balency’s jetsetting, elegant and interesting compositions.

A popular figure within electronic circles, Balency has welcomed opportunities to collaborate with a number of the genre’s conquerors, both classic and contemporary. A particular collaborative highlight of Balency’s is a vocal feature on the FKA Twigs / We Are Shining track‘Breaks’, not to mention her work with the likes of French synth-wave hero Colder; Los Angeles electro wunderkind Salva; New York based rapper Kilo Kish and many more. Most notably, 1-800 Dinosaur founder Rob McAndrews (aka Airhead) frequently joins Balency on production duties.

Having just returned from a range of European dates supporting BANKS, Metronomy and London Grammar, Andrea Balency looks forward to a busy 2015, with brand new releases on the way, more high class collaborations and a wealth of live performances across the globe. All to be announced very soon.

Lafawndah Press Quotes
‘“[on self-titled EP] the percussion hums and swarms around the hypnotizing beat, evoking an almost-oppressive tropical humidity. Sweetly undeterred, as if lost in her own internal world, LAFAWNDAH’s voice rises clean above it.’ – Pitchfork
‘With her wide-eyed artistic outlook, vocalist Lafawndah’s magnetism is captivating NY’s new wave of downtown dance producers. Paris-born and Brooklyn-based, she’s been adding heat to tracks by the likes of Teengirl Fantasy and L-Vis 1990, while her self-released debut EP of zouk-tinged electronica is as lush and green as the Caribbean island it was recorded on. Watch her come up on the horizon like a mirage’Dazed
‘The mononymous newcomer shares globetrotting dance-pop…oozes sensuality over visceral tropical grooves.’ – FACT
‘Globe-trotting singer garbling zouk and dancehall to concoct fresh, placeless pop.’ – Dummy

Andrea Balency Press Quotes
‘Balency is in many great ways a contemporary of British exponents such as FKA Twigs. It is quirkily rhythmic and quixotically melodic’ – The Guardian (New Band Of The Week)
‘A truly cosmopolitan mix.. with urban synth lines resembling ‘CMYK’-era Blake to a T. Her vocals place her firmly in a class of her own though.’ – NME
A spectacular piece of work.’ – Stereogum
‘It’s easy to see why she’s in great demand: Cocteau Twins-meets-SBTRKT waves of avant-garde gorgeousness’’ – Q Magazine
