Lakes – These Minutes

Lakes – These Minutes

Lakes are a five piece ambient metal band from High Wycombe who seems as disillusioned and disenchanted as the rest of the youth in today’s society. They produce a brand of hardcore that as an atmosphere about it and a weight upon its shoulders.

Lakes have the same formula of an intense vocal followed by a heavy hitting guitar line that leads into break downs and up lifts but with a twist. The twist is I can’t imagine every “hardcore kid” two stepping and looking like arseholes at their live shows, which for me, a person who hates hardcore dancing is a positive.

If you are a fan of bands such as Devil Sold His Soul and The Elijah then Lakes are in a similar league. If you want something intense whilst also being though provoking then These Minutes should swiftly enter your record collection.

Stand out track has to be the seven plus minute epic Columns. A mellow opening followed by over five minutes of in your face, brash heaviness that doesn’t let up until the track eventually fades out.

This band has no negatives that I can think of. They look like a band, they sound like a band and from this mini album they put it all out there and take no prisoners. Superb. 8.75/10
