“A sound that marries the swagger of ‘70s rock with the sensitivity of modern folk.”

Consequence of Sound

“Her voice is a throwback. In a time when almost all the edges are buffed off on laptops, she scampers between phrases and lets a guttural gasp make her point as often as a clean, high note.”

The Los Angeles Times

“Lauren Ruth Ward Is a ’70s-Channeling Mix of Janis Joplin and Courtney Barnett”

LA Weekly

“…sonically falling somewhere between contemporary guitar-rock cats like Courtney Barnett and Sheryl Crow’s forever-illuminated ’90s rock and roll dream.”

Vanyaland

West Coast up-and-comer Lauren Ruth Ward will release her psych-blues debut album, Well, Hell, tomorrow on Weekday Records. To celebrate the album’s release, the band is sharing brand new video for album track Sheet Stainstoday. Of the video Ward explains, “Sheet Stains” helps me laugh about my loneliness. I’ve only spent about 70 days with my partner in the last 20 months. After a night of successfully distracting myself from my loneliness, I wake up and realize, oh yeah, she still not here and everything around me reminds me of her. It’s a painful feeling and the only solution is to deal. It’s the life of dating a touring artist. The hardest is when we’re both on tour. For “Sheet Stains” music video, I wanted to create that: what day of the week is it? — lost in the sauce — missing my love/normalcy — kind a day.”

Having recently played to at-capacity rooms and selling out multiple nights of their January residency at The Echoplex, the band has just announced a headlining show at The Troubadour in LA on March 29 (buy tickets here). The band will also be heading to Vegas for a performance at  Emerge Impact + Music. The Los Angeles Times recently featured Lauren Ruth Ward, calling her “one of L.A.’s must-see frontwomen, and one of the city’s most physical and volatile performers.”

A prolific artist in every medium she touches, Lauren has been a hairstylist for 9 years, while at the same time shifting her creative focus to her music in partnership with her co-writer and guitarist Eduardo Rivera. On the new album, Well, Hell, Lauren’s arresting voice slices through the classic rock instrumentation delivered through the perfect modern filter by her band. “Did I Offend You?” one of the many standout tracks on the album, showcases the duo’s intricate yet playful songwriting and lyrical wit.

With each song’s release and live performance, Lauren’s trajectory steadily ascends. She has received accolades from Consequence of Sound, Indie Shuffle, Vanyaland, and Wonderland as well as an in-depth feature with LA Weekly. She was also recently featured on American Apparel as a part of their “Meet Lauren” campaign.
