San Antonio’s We Leave At Midnight recently released their new album The Holy Rolling Flower Band via Texas Is Funny Records and now the band are sharing the music video for “Milo” together with The AV Club. Speaking about the band’s sound, AV Club shared, “At the tail end of 2016, We Leave At Midnight released The Holy Rolling Flower Band, an EP whose title fairly succinctly sums up what the band does so well. It evokes the band’s sound, which is a mix of psychedelia, funk, and the sound of a rolling paper brushing across the cover of a beat-up classic rock LP.”
AV Club added: “The video is a freewheeling journey that matches the song well, and approximates what a pleasant jaunt through a forest would be in the company of a mythical “rammoth.”
We Leave At Midnight’s John Dailey shared:
“For “Milo” we worked with Frank Weysos, who has directed videos for bands such as Dr. Dog, Grace Potter, Heartless Bastards, Spanish Gold, Black Pistol Fire, and more. I had the idea to shoot it at the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Antonio and try stop animation for the first time. We filmed the rest of it at our friends art space K23 Gallery. I thought a fictitious “rammoth” and a cloud would be a good example of two unlikely lost creatures that should never of been together in the first place and find each other in the end. I’ve always thought cotton and yarn play well on camera too.”
UPCOMING SHOWS:
01/16 – San Antonio, TX @ Limelight w/ Femina X, Van Allen Belt & Rivers Want
ABOUT WE LEAVE AT MIDNIGHT:
We Leave at Midnight picks up the shards of broken dreams and discarded romance while cashing in on yesteryear’s angst for a newfound wisdom on love and loss. The Texas five-piece’s own psych-rock omniverse presents swirling pop confections that buzz inside blistering guitar constructions. Vocalist and guitarist John Dailey builds the new story of rock around a chemical reaction of multi-dimensional players. With 5+ years of commitment to the craft, WLAM’s dense groove translates from recordings to the stage for a potent mix of both the abstract and concrete. New recording The Holy Rolling Flower Band features material brewed from an assortment of emotion, life experience and an appreciation of rock’s classic creators.
Bubblegum and dissonance rarely join forces in our collective, musical imaginations, but We Leave at Midnight put multiple matches to the test and does more than combine influences. Generating the new breed of songwriting for a collective in pop and the human experience, WLAM packs a lovesick tempo punch on The Holy Rolling Flower Band. Dailey leads the devoted crew of multi-instrumentalists through divided blasts of hope and exile. We Leave At Midnight invite you to dance, laugh, cry and change your life together with the band.

The Holy Rolling Flower Band is evidence of the creative mastery found within We Leave At Midnight.” – Impose
“There are lots of individual pieces to isolate and enjoy in “Dover Dog”, from the bouncy piano melody in the intro to the bright, slippery bassline that takes over at various points in the verse. “Swirling” may be an overused term when it comes to psych pop, but it applies here; the song’s various parts drift in and out of focus, though they seem united by an undefinable logic that may well be one of the band’s other closely guarded secrets.” – Consequence of Sound
“We Leave at Midnight hail from San Antonio, but don’t call them cowboys — they’re really a bunch of Southern psychonauts. As with local forebears Midlake, the Texas band (fronted by singer-songwriter John Dailey) churns out ornate rock that — however Beatles-indebted — can’t help but meander off into dreamland like the Elephant 6 collective.” – CLRVYNT
“Texas indie/psych rock five-piece We Leave At Midnight ooze an undeniable, effortless cool that mixes with genuine and creative talent for a combination that’s just simply impressive.” – Substream
