This one of The Selecter’ first official music video releases for nearly 30 years!

As the first track written for the record, Box Fresh sets the tone perfectly. “A box fresh start, a brand new beginning” sings Pauline as the music rings out an original sound that sounds as current as it does rooted in its 2-tone origins.

Written as a present for the band’s loyal fan base, Pauline pledges, “You will always wear the crown, I will never let you down”, and she never does! Recorded and produced by Neil Pyzer and expertly mixed by Mike “Prince Fatty” Pelanconi (Hollie Cook, Lily Allen, Graham Coxon, Gregory Isaacs), Subculture is the calling card of a classic band that are completely tuned into the issues and challenges.

Since re-forming a half-decade ago, The Selecter have become increasingly aware that their championing of 2-Tone, Ska, Reggae & Soul is firmly rooted outside of  today’s mainstream genres.

Despite this, with over 110,000 Facebook fans and tens of thousands more across other networks, The Selecter’s following is worldwide and enduring. They remain  figureheads for Skinheads, Mods, Punks, Northern-Soulers, Rude Boys & Girls and the many other groups who define themselves at variance with the status quo.

Led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black, whose recent series of shows on BBC 6Music were hugely well received, and whose book Black By Design continues to sell in droves worldwide, The Selecter have headlined hundreds of gigs, played

Glastonbury, Isle Of Wight & Coachella festivals amongst hundreds more, and performed extensively across Europe, USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand.

The Selecter is not just Pauline Black though; alongside an incredible talented band of musicians, they are co-fronted by original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson (who features extensively on Subculture). Pauline and Gaps will both be joining Jools Holland on an extensive tour of the UK this autumn, ahead of The Selecter’s own extensive headline tour in November & December (dates below).

The world has moved on since 2-tone arrived on the scene in 1979, and The Selecter have committed to moving right along with it. For them it is about moving away from nostalgia debates and focusing on the contemporary and revitalizing optimism that their live performance engenders in audiences all over the world.
