MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST UNVEILS ‘INTO THE ETHER’ VIA THE FADER

NEW ALBUM ‘TWIN SOLITUDE’ OUT FEBRUARY 24

+ UK TOUR ANNOUNCED

‘TWIN SOLITUDE’ OUT 24TH FEBRUARY ON SECRET CITY RECORDS

Montreal singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk has unveiled the second song from his forthcoming album ‘Twin Solitude’ (24th February/Secret City Records) today via The Fader.  Listen to “Into The Ether” here: https://soundcloud.com/secretcityrecords/04-leif-vollebekk-into-the-ether

‘Twin Solitude’ was born out of recalibration; Leif changing his approach to songwriting and exploring musical ideas that came to him spontaneously.  Many of the songs on the album were written in one sitting, including the breathtaking “Into The Ether” which came to be whilst playing piano.

“The track features passionate Broken Social Scene-adjacent melodies wrapped in a casual, jammy atmosphere. Vollebekk sighs fragmented musings on the space between love and disappointment as Chargaux, the duo who played strings on Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” produce tense pulls of their bows” (The Fader)

The premiere of “Into The Ether” follows a glowing write-up from NPR Songs We Love for his song “Elegy,” calling it “devastatingly beautiful.” Brooklyn Vegan followed with a premiere of the video, which was shot on a Florida beach at dusk with a steady cam that follows Leif dancing into the ocean.  “Elegy” has been streamed over 700 000 times and debuted in the Top 15 on Spotify’s UK Viral 50 chart.

Leif is WXPN’s Artist To Watch for January and The Montreal Gazette’s Quebec musician to watch in 2017. Also, World Café featured two of his songs as part of their Next series in December.  His international tour will start February 28 at NYC’s Mercury Lounge and includes UK dates with Colorado folk artist Gregory Alan Isakov from 25th March in Brighton, ending at the Islington Assembly Hall on 3rd April.

Leif released his breakthrough sophomore album ‘North Americana’ in 2013, and since then has performed at the Newport Folk Festival and shared stages with Daniel Lanois, Beth Orton, Sinéad O’Connor, Patrick Watson, Coeur de Pirate, William Fitzsimmons and Sam Amidon. His 2010 debut ‘Inland’ was described as “beautiful, memorable and moving” by NPR and “timeless and monumental” by The Independent.
