[Me] – ‘Like A Fox’ Lizard King Records

First up I would like to say that we need to have bands like Australia’s [Me] around. The band describe themselves as Neo-Rock, no I don’t either. But they are from Melbourne cite The Beatles, Radiohead, System Of A Down, Pink Floyd among others as influences. I have even had Southern Hemisphere friends suggesting that I listen to or ‘Like’ them on face book..
The title track of this five track physical and download release is ‘Like A Fox’ comes across as a Muse like band infiltrated by an
estranged mid-80’s pop maestro. Like Sparks, or present day Mars Volta; I figure, the band ‘likes’, of Radiohead meets Led Zeppelin might only serve to confuse you, but press play on the video above, and you may at least understand my opening reference and influences.
But enough references and part comparisons, like probably many before me, I fear that I have jumped the gun. For the  second song, the rock operatic, ‘we are from the empire’ vocal stylings of ‘Your Favourite Colour’ works well; ‘Westward
Backwards’ follows which keeps the ball up in the air, so to speak, as well as giving the chance for Domain Tapley  to fill his
lungs and go for it.. ‘Carousel’, for me, leans too heavily on that mid- 1970’s arrangements. It all nearly sinks  my boat, before the radio edit of ‘Like A Fox’ a calmer version; as if the edges nave all been erased by media-friendly studio engineers, it seems a little softer or is it my imagination?. But subsequent listening, confirm my positive opening statement,at least,  I will go further, it will be good times to have [Me] around, on the strength of this release for a welcome good few more years to come. 7.5/10
