Dub is an acquired taste does it all ‘sound the same’ or is it a radical soul penetrating experiment in sound. Linval Thompson has worked with many of the most noted producers Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare Prince Jammy and of course King Tubby. These fourteen genuinely unreleased tracks were mixed by Scientist, King Tubby’s protégé, under whose careful hand John Holt’s original of ‘Clock Face’ is opened up confirming its association with Tubby’s own Hometown HI-Fi sound system. Thompson’s era is seen as the last quality era of dub-style before the industry in

Jamaica shifted to what would become Dancehall. While not in the same league as Augustus Pablo or Prince Far I the strong production means that these are far from studio floor sweepings marketed as lost gems, the music is as vibrant, strange and exciting as it ever was. 8.8/10
