A Hilarious, Tragic Review of 2016

Her Annual Year-In-Review Show

(Dec. 31st)

Proceeds Go To Lady Parts Justice League

Lizz Winstead, co-creator and former head writer of The Daily Show, tapes her hilarious one woman take down of the year, Controversy: A Hilarious, Tragic Review of 2016 on December 30th. Controversy will be available for pay-per-view on December 31 at 9pm online HERE. Winstead, one of the country’s top political satirists, takes on 2016 with all the rage and rebellion it deserves.

The Minneapolis native taped the show in her hometown and the title was inspired by her musical hero Prince, using the imagery and title of his classic album, Controversy.  Winstead states, “The death of Prince shook me to my core as someone who came of age working at First Avenue in the early 1980’s. As the year unfolded in one controversy after the next, I felt it was a fitting analogy to sum up the theme of this years retrospective.”

From Prince’s shocking death to Donald Trump’s shocking win, Winstead, who is a regular on MSNBC and Comedy Central, will dive deep into all that has made 2016 the most controversial year of her career.  If it went down and made headlines in 2016, you can best bet that Winstead will have something hilarious and outrageous to say about it.

About the show, Winstead says, “I have been doing political comedy for 25 years and this year was the biggest avalanche of material I have ever had to dig out from under.”

Controversy: A Hilarious, Tragic Review of 2016 is available now for pre-purchase and will be live on December 31st at 9pm EST for a $9.99 donation to her non profit organization Lady Parts Justice League.

ABOUT LIZZ WINSTEAD:

Winstead has built her amazing career hilariously responding to the world. As co-creator and head writer of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” Winstead has forever changed the way people get their news. As co-founder of Air America Radio, she laid the foundation for such personalities as Al Franken and Marc Maron, all while hosting her own show called “Unfiltered” sharing the mic every morning with the amazing Rachel Maddow and Hip Hop legend, Chuck D.  As a stand-up she continues to tour, bringing her rapid response brand of comedy to theatres across the country and in 2014, was initiated into the Harvard Lampoon.

Winstead has now taken her satirical brilliance one step further, combining it with her passion for reproductive justice to form her latest passion project, Lady Parts Justice, a non profit organization made up of comedians, writers and technologists creating videos that use humor and outrage to expose sexist, anti choice local politicians in all 50 state legislatures while providing support to clinics around the country, working to remove the stigma around abortion.

Winstead’s activism includes an ongoing comedy tour to raise money and awareness for Planned Parenthood and independent abortion providers and to date, she has raised over $7 million. The tour was turned into a documentary short called Smear Campaign, which won “Best Documentary Comedy Short” at the Atlanta Documentary Film Festival. Her advocacy work has been recognized by many reproductive rights organizations including 2 NARAL Champion’s of Choice awards.

In addition to performing and reproductive justice work, Winstead authored Lizz Free Or Die, a funny and touching book of personal essays, that Elle magazine called, “Sharply witty and iconoclastic”
