Dot Hacker’s first full-length album Inhibition is out today, May 1 via ORG Music. The release streamed HERE on Hitfix who calls it “a spacey, melody-driven mesh of able-bodied, technical dark-rockers, with the 32-year-old’s vocals, on par with the quixotic close-eyed Matthew Bellamy. It’s a very solid set.”
Earlier, while talking to ARTIST direct, Josh Klinghoffer, who doubles as Red Hot Chili Pepper’s guitarist, talked about Dot Hackers’ debut "People can relate to it, but it’s not comprised of the most common sounds. "On describing Inhibition as a movie:“ I saw the new Terrence Malick movie The Tree of Life in the theater, and I loved it. I’ve been trying to compare everything to it. I’m not sure I could equate the album to that movie specifically. However, the look, the pacing, and openness of that movie—how much it lets the viewer do a lot of work and take it anyway they want to—I would hope is how someone would take Inhibition or anything I do.”
The music of Dot Hacker is architectural, built on a foundation of bold, manipulated tones and supported by lush eclectic textures and angular rhythm. The band’s enigmatic sound comes from the collaboration of friends and founding members, Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Clint Walsh (Gnarls Barkley), Eric Gardner and Jonathan Hischke (Hella). Klinghoffer says “People can relate to it, but it’s not comprised of the most common sounds” about the album.
Before forming Dot Hacker in 2008, the four were already established musicians, recording and touring with an impressive list of respected artists including: Beck, Gnarls Barkley, PJ Harvey, Charlotte Gainsbourg, The Butthole Surfers and Broken Bells amongst many others. Klinghoffer, the band’s lead vocalist, also currently plays guitar in the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band plans to announce more shows in 2012 to support the release of their debut album.
