Lossy to release 20 minute live looping EP / film ‘Microverse’

Acclaimed electronic artist Lossy has teamed up with visual artist Strangers Are People Too for ‘Microverse’, a live looping piece which is due to be released both as a full 20 minute film and 4 track digital EP.

Artist: Lossy & Strangers Are People Too

Album: Microverse

Release Date: April 28th

Label: Boot Cycle Audio

“Microverse” is the third release for composer and producer Lossy on his label Boot Cycle Audio. Having previously released with Tru Thoughts, Tessier Ashpool & Two Rivers Records, Lossy teams up with visual artist Strangers Are People Too for this live looping piece which is due to be released both as a full 20 minute film and 4 track digital EP. Originally inspired by experiments with microscopes and natural objects, this work is an exploration of the epicness within the miniscule, a journey to the extraordinary realms that can be found within the ordinary. Here you will find acid techno bass lines layered with orchestral brass, vintage synth sounds blended with overlapping saxophone, along with dystopian warped piano and noise based sound design. The music is layered up in live loops of electronic and acoustic sounds, all based around a minimal 16 note sequence, taking us through four distinct movements while visuals of electrified organica journey through imagined inner worlds. Having performed and developed the piece at several events, including the Music Tech Fest at LSO St Luke’s in London and IRCAM in Paris, the pair are now delighted to present this polished studio version in all its quirky and colourful glory.

About Lossy & Strangers Are People Too

Lossy, aka Sam Sharp, is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Hackney, London. As a session musician he has worked for Phil Selby (Radiohead), Beverley Knight, Ben Taylor and Lou Rhodes (Lamb), along with tour dates and remixes for the likes of Hackney Colliery Band, Introducing Live, Augustines, Laura Mvula, Greymatter and Roska. His own works have received great coverage to date, including support from Radio 3, 6 music, Amazing Radio, XLR8R, Clash Music, Ear Milk, Data Transmission and Watch The Hype. Always at the forefront of technology, his live performances combine innovative controllers, live electronics, traditional acoustic instruments and looping gear to enable him to improvise and compose on the fly.

Strangers Are People Too is the alias of London based VJ and video artist Sarah Culross. Fascinated with abstraction and distillation, her visuals veer from the slight and minimal to the psychedelic and gaudy, distorting representations of nature and everyday objects to beyond recognition. The pair first met whilst collaborating on a live show with poet Hollie McNish, after which they started sending each other snippets of audio and video a few jams later and Microverse was born and ready to perform live. They plan to perform the piece again in 2017 to mark this release.

About Boot Cycle Audio

Formed at the start of 2015, the label was conceived as a new outlet for the varied and eclectic side of Lossy, often based on live experiments on the stage and in the studio. The name comes from a technical boot cycle, a power off and on again, the idea being that each release is unique and refreshing and there should be no restriction or hesitation in the output.
