‘Matter of Time’ is an energetic guitar-driven piece of indie-rock, which gives a respectful and nostalgic nod back to the gritty Brit Pop of the 1990s. A task made easier to achieve when Sam Williams was brought in on desk duties having worked with an impressive list of bands which also includes Supergrass, Plan B and The Noisettes; As a result the feel of ‘Matter of Time’ is fairly upfront and epic. Something that the powers that be or the trio themselves were aiming for. The Luka State are Conrad Ellis (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Sam Bell (Bass) and Jess Whitmore (Drums) and they release their debut single ‘Matter of Time’ via Project Records on 2nd December 2013.
Although the band formed just under a year ago, all the members have been playing in bands since the tender age of 12 and have already toured North America. Band ethos is wide-ranging, The Luka State cite “All types of Rock n Roll’ as their inspiration “from Thin Lizzy right through to The Jam and then on to Kasabian”. Something everyone should support WG thinks. A ‘Matter of Time’ is being released as a double A-Side with ‘30 Minute Break’ on limited edition vinyl ad as a download I presume.
So to ‘Matter Of Time’ which is a melodic guitar-hook-friendly slice of indie complete with that uplifting enthusiasm, hard not to relate to the ‘Matter Of time’. A good single. 8/10
