MANCHESTER ACADEMY: 25 YEARS IS JUST THE INTRO…

ANNOUNCING THE LATEST ADDITION IN THE ACADEMY 25th ANNIVERSARY SHOW SERIES:

“A TRIBUTE TO MANCH25TER”

FEAT.

THE CLONE ROSES // THE OASIS EXPERIENCE // THESE  SMITHS // TRUE ORDER

+ SPECIAL GUEST DJ PHIL BECKETT (STONE ROSES TOUR DJ)

FRIDAY 4th DECEMBER 2015

You’d better dust down your parkas, dig out those flares and get bequiffing those fringes now as the Manchester Academy reveals the latest instalment of its year-long 25th Anniversary gig series…  Announcing: “A TRIBUTE TO MANCH25TER”.
Having spawned some of the world’s greatest bands and nurtured our humble venue from its infancy with its thriving music scene, we felt it only fitting to pay homage to the culture and the city that has supported us all these years.
For one night only on Friday 4th December 2015 we will be enlisting some of the UK’s most talented tribute acts: THE CLONE ROSES, THE OASIS EXPERIENCE, THESE SMITHS and TRUE ORDER, to toast a champagne supernova showstopper in Manchester’s honour.

Whilst New Order and The Roses remain holed up in the studio, the Gallagher brothers lead us on with an endless reunion tease and Mozza and Marr pursue their towering solo successes, we will assemble an entourage of musical doppelgangers for a line up otherwise plucked straight from your wildest dreams.
Kicking off 5 hours of globe conquering Mancunian music are True Order. The UK’s only tribute to New Order promise to take you on a journey through the hits, cult-picks and electronics that made the band a global sensation. Guaranteed to be as sonically similar to the originals as you are likely to get, expect a set littered with chart smashes like ‘Blue Monday’, ‘True Faith’ and ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ standing side by side with fan favourites like ‘Procession’  and ‘Everything’s Gone Green’.
Fronted by the suitably flamboyant singer Jim Thompson, this charming man’s impression of the Mozfather on the 2015 series of ITV’s ‘Stars in their Eyes’ was so uncanny it had audiences and judges reeling. It didn’t take long for like-minded Marr, Rourke and Joyce idolisers to gravitate into the set-up that are now known as THESE SMITHS. Prepare to take a bow as this tight-knit four piece breathe new life into Smiths and Morrissey classics untouched for decades including “Ask”, “Suedehead”, “There is a Light That Never Goes Out”, “Panic” and many more of the tracks that have become part of Manchester’s very fabric.
It seems like all too long ago now since that infamous Gallagher brother bust-up curtailed hopes of catching Oasis back on the live circuit any time soon. But don’t look back in anger, as THE OASIS EXPERIENCE proudly claim to be ‘the closest you’ll come to Oasis live’. Having already won over Creation Records guru, Alan ‘The Man Who Discovered Oasis’ McGee, the band’s fan base has grown as exponentially as their set list. Expect these Rock’n’Roll stars to bring it on down this December as they rip through anthem after anthem, from “Supersonic” to “Live Forever” to “Wonderwall”  and beyond.
But before the final curtain falls, no tribute to the city’s musical heritage would be complete without a substantial nod to one of its best-loved acts. Having performed at the Manchester Academy every year now since 2005, anyone who has seen THE CLONE ROSES at our venue before, will know it has become something of a rite of passage for any Stone Roses fan. In recent years, the band have genetically modified their set to immaculately imitate their namesake’s triumphant Heaton Park comeback shows, song for song, sing-a-long for sing-a-long. Prepare to be transported back to those hazy summer evenings once again as the band return in 2015 to whirl through The Roses’ distinguished repertoire with “I Wanna Be Adored”, “Made of Stone”, “Fools Gold” and more propping up a hit-heavy set.
And just in case you’re looking for a reminder of a Stone Roses experience a little earlier than Heaton Park, Special Guest DJ for the night PHIL BECKETT will be on hand to ensure the seamless flow of great tunes all night. Having supplied the feel good vibes on tour with the Roses back in the 90s as they took to the stage for some of their most memorable show,  it’s safe to say you’re in good hands here.

‘A TRIBUTE TO MANCH25TER’ will take place on Friday 4th December 2015.

As one of UK’s busiest venues and host to some of the most thrilling live entertainment in the Northwest, Manchester Academy is proud to reach a landmark 25 years on October 7th 2015.
For 25 years, the Academy has been the beating heart of the city’s hailed live music scene, both celebrating the classic and providing the platform to propel tomorrow’s brightest talents to uncharted stratospheric heights. From Bowie to Bastille, Foo Fighters to Faithless, Kylie to Korn, Lady Gaga to London Grammar, The Prodigy to Prince and Radiohead to Robbie Williams we have been privileged to host them all.
Out moshing Jilly’s Music Box and raving beyond the Hacienda years, we are hugely grateful to everyone who has helped the Academy outlast even our host city’s very finest venues since 1990.
We really can’t thank all of you gig-goers, artists, promoters, agents, managers and staff that have always supported us all this time. We can only repay you with the only way Manchester knows how: one massive party. Standby for even more announcements in our year long series of special one-off concerts and festivities to come.
