MAD COOL FESTIVAL – MADRID – 16,17,18 JUNE 2016

 

MADRID is proud to announce the first edition of MAD COOL FESTIVAL, the Spanish capital’s first major festival; an innovative project that aims to go beyond music and provide a cultural experience that incorporates photography, film, fashion and gastronomy into a sustainable and environmentally friendly music and arts experience.

On 16th, 17th and 18th June 2016, Madrid’s Caja Mágica or ‘Magic Box’ stadium will host theMAD COOL FESTIVAL.
Home to the Madrid Open Tennis Tournament, Caja Mágica was designed by award winning French architect Dominique Perrault. The festival will consist of five stages: two main outdoor as well as three indoor stages, that are within the ‘Magic Box’ itself.

PERFORMERS:
MAD COOL FESTIVAL will exclusively play host to over seventy artists from all over the world. Headliners are: Neil Young, The Who and Prodigy.
The first night of the festival sees icons of the twentieth century, The Who, bringing classic British rock’n’roll and the spirit of mod to Madrid. Iberian Festival Award winners Vetusta Morla, Editors,Garbage, Lori Meyers, The Kills, Django Django, The Strypes, Låpsley and new Spanish talent Lucia Scansetti will all be performing on the opening day.
Day Two sees out and out rock from Twin Atlantic, acclaimed acts such as Augustines,Benjamin Francis Leftwich, psychedlic trips with Temples, authors of the most viral track on Spotify Spain Fuel Fandango followed by Stereophonics, Band of Horses and L.A rock supremos Jane’s Addiction. Closing Friday night are none other than pioneers of big beat and “godfathers of rave” the Prodigy ripping up the main stage with the very definition of electronic and dance music.
The legend that is Neil Young + The Promise of the Real will headline on Saturday, the night atMad Cool Festival 2016. One of the most influential guitarists and songwriters in music history, the seventy year old will be releasing his 37th album to coincide with the festival, this June. Preceding Neil Young is another stellar line-up with up and coming and popular artists from around the world –Public Service Broadcasting, Lucy Rose and Wild Beasts mix it up with more Iberian talent in the form of Carmen Boza, Corizonas, Xoel López. The stage will shine with John Grant, Biffy Clyro and Two Door Cinema Club before Neil Young brings Mad Cool 2016 to a close.

PHOTOGRAPHY:
In addition to the world beating musical line up, Mad Cool will bring to Caja Mágica (‘Magic Box’) the inaugural European exhibition of Baron Wolman’s seminal 1969 images from the first edition ofWoodstock Festival. Commissioned by Rolling Stone magazine as part of its Woodstock coverage, 95% of the images were never released at the time. 35 images will go on display, for the first time anywhere in Europe, at Mad Cool Festival on 16th June.

Avalon, one of the most interesting film brands to come out of Spain will be hosting the Mad Cool Screen. Throughout the three days, the Mad Cool Screen will be showing some of the most seminal and ground breaking music and documentary films to have been made: Searching For Sugarman,I’m Still Here, Control, Janis and CSNY Déjà vu
