Maigret Jnr ‘Sick Friends’ Debut EP Released September 3rd

Positioning an artist within your mind based on that first song you hear can sometimes be the most significant moment; the one song that dictates how you’ll perceive them for some time to come. If it does what it’s intended to then it will resonate with you and you’ll be immersed. Only then do you delve further, seeking out nuances and hints of idiosyncrasies that just keep on giving.

After hearing ‘Always Again’, the opening track from Maigret Jnr’s forthcoming EP, you likely won’t be envisioning a DJ and vinyl obsessive, whose song-writing exploits began after plugging headphones into a mic-socket and mumbling over Pete Rock and Req One instrumentals. Instead you’re greeted with a big haunting vocal and muted organs over heavy isolated beats, a knack of storytelling that is more in key with Leonard Cohen than an aspiring teenage MC surrounded with endless releases from labels such as Wordplay, Source and Output.
