Malcolm Todd returns with new single ‘Breathe’ External Inbox
The first time he played London, Malcolm Todd performed in a basement with the crowd shoulder-to-shoulder at The Lower Third; when he returned, he sold out Kentish Town Forum. The 22-year-old’s dizzying popularity poses a vision for a new kind of poster boy because he is unflinchingly real: self-doubts and radical vulnerability bring human texture to the dream.
Malcolm Todd makes his return today with new single ‘Breathe’, a silky RnB cut he co-produced which captures the spirit of golden age N.E.R.D and imperial-phase Justin Timberlake. Ever tongue-in-cheek, the track is brought to life with a playful music video directed by longtime collaborator Aidan Cullen in which a group of girls turn fantasy into reality by holding him hostage in their bedroom.
Malcolm Todd captures the complicated magic of those bambi steps in your twenties, from his days playing high school parties when he recorded his early EP Demos Before Prom to the point of releasing his self-titled debut album which has earned over 600 million global streams. He has toured the world with Omar Apollo, has already realised his teenage dream of performing at Camp Flog Gnaw and completed his Wholesome Rockstar Tour across the UK, Europe, the US and Australia where the strength of his already-immense fanbase could be felt in full force.
Two years after its release, his debut album continues to reach new heights: the breakout single ‘Chest Pain (I Love)’ earned Todd his first Billboard Hot 100 entry and has tallied over 350 million streams worldwide, reaching even further this year when Don Toliverprominently sampled it on his hit ‘E85’, and fan favourites ‘Sweet Boy’, ‘Earrings’, and ‘Roommates’ continue to land within Spotify’s Top 200 – a testament to a new kind of pop star who once heard, can’t be forgotten.
With ‘Breathe’, his first new release of 2026, Malcolm Todd reveals the first glimpse of what awaits us.
