MANCHESTER ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
15TH JANUARY 2016
This email contains an attachment of complete event listings through to January 2016
Welcome to the future. Or, perhaps more accurately, the present. Despite the fact we’ve arrived in 2016, every time you write the date it feels like something from a science fiction novel, inspiring thoughts on what the forthcoming months have in store. As such we present our first newsletter of the new year as a means to clarify exactly what’s about to happen here at Manchester’s finest venues. So, best be listening up.
First up in our highlights we kick off with the somewhat monolithic NME Awards Tour 2016, which drops by our hallowed music halls on Thursday 6th February. Bringing with it Bloc Party, Drenge, Rat Boy, and Bugzy Malone, representing the great and good of both established and upcoming stars from the world of guitars and compelling rhythms. It’s the kind of show that only comes around once a year.
A few weeks later we welcome the mighty Soul II Soul featuring Jazzie B and Caron Wheeler. Ready to fill the Academy on Saturday 20th February, the troupe remain one of the most archetypal UK dance acts from the formative years of the scene, with Back To Life still causing goosebumps to this day- 27 years after it was first released. The fact they have support from The James Taylor Quartet, with an after show DJ set from none other than Norman Jay, MBE, only makes it more of an essential ticket.
Finally, we have just confirmed the mighty U.S. metal outfit In This Moment, for Thursday 27th May. Hailing from Los Angeles, these industrially-edged titans have been making very loud noises since 2005, and lay claim to five critically lauded long players, including 2014’s Black Widow. Boasting an inimitable reputation in the live arena, whenever they appear on stage attendees are treated to a relentless, immersive trip to the darker side of rock music, where juggernaut instrumentalism meets poignancy. To misquote a familiar advert, then, if this is the future things are looking rather bright indeed.
