The EP gives six tracks off Somerville’s already mesmerizing, wind-swept record new life in fitting, and sometimes surprising ways via its enlisted cast of friends and collaborators (Seefeel, YHWH Nailgun, Fatshaudi, colle, Asa Nisi Masa & Oscar18, and Boris).
Announced in November, Somerville initially shared three tracks off the Luster (Remixes) EP — Seefeel’s slow-burning 7-minute ‘Stonefly’ remix, enlivened by crackling synths and whispered cosmological refrains; colle’s (Maya McGrory of Chanel Beads) ‘Projections’ remix, where she adds to the longing inherent of the single with delicately plucked strings and lightly swirling feedback; and Brisbane-based underground producer Fatshaudi’s (aka Rachael Ryan) romantic dream-pop ‘Up’ remix. With the EP’s full release today, Somerville presents its final three tracks — American experimental rock foursome YHWH Nailgun’s spacey, industrial take on ‘Violet’ via humming woodwinds, a droning vocal loop, and syncopated rototom hits; Asa Nisi Masa and Oscar18 (of experimental hip-hop collective Haunted Mound)’s gothic 808-infused ‘Corrib’ remix; and Japanese sludge metal band Boris’ ‘October Moon’ remix, fleshed out in all-consuming feedback and rapid-fire cymbal hits.

Maria Somerville’s Luster, the otherworldly yet grounded record including atmospheric and whirring dreamgaze singles ‘Spring’ and ‘Garden’, channels her experiences on the bank of the Corrib in her native Connemara, Ireland and pays homage to the sonic tapestry woven by classic 4AD collectives such as This Mortal Coil and Lush. Following a busy 2025 – where the record received a Best New Music accolade from Pitchfork and a glowing Guardian review – the record also had ‘Best of the Year’ mentions in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Vogue, Crack
In continued celebration of Luster and the new Luster (Remixes) EP, Maria Somerville will hit the road this Spring, with dates across the US, UK, and Europe including her native Ireland (headline dates in Limerick, Dublin, and Galway). Select dates see her joined by Joanne Robertson, Milan W., Fine, and Nashpaints. This forthcoming tour follows Somerville’s sold-out 2025 shows in New York and London; buzzy dates across the UK/EU/US with Chanel Beads, james K, colle, and others; and two back-to-back shows supporting My Bloody Valentine in Manchester and Dublin last November. Amid touring and recording, Somerville has also continued hosting her beloved Early Bird Show on NTS Radio every Monday and Tuesday morning (as she has since 2021), where her dawn chorus selections range from blissful ambient and shoegaze to traditional Irish folk songs — tune in HERE.
