Matilda Lyn has returned today with ‘No Fun’, reflecting on the complexities of the mind and the feeling of being perpetually under construction. Following the release of her highly anticipated debut EP A Bowl Of Unripe Fruit which included tracks ‘Down Down Down’, ‘Fooled By September’, ‘Wait for Me’ and ‘Dead Ends’, Matilda carries through her knack for putting concise and wry words to the aches and pains of coming of age. During the course of her debut EP, Matilda built up an incredibly impressive foundation for a rising popstar, with support from BBC Radio 1, Apple Music 1, NME, Sunday Times, Wonderland, Clash, i-D, Pigeons & Planes, The Line of Best Fit and more.
Speaking on today’s release Matilda shares; “I started writing no fun on the guitar when I was living in a studio apartment that had scaffolding on the outside and plastic covering every window. I was thinking a lot about how I sometimes feel like I need to take a step back from all my thoughts and feelings and how my brain can be a not so fun place to be in, like it’s always under construction.”
Performed and produced by Matilda Lyn, and released today on Giant, the new LA-based label helmed by Jeffrey Azoff, founder of Full Stop Management (Harry Styles, Lizzo, Anderson .Paak, James Blake), the Swedish songwriter and producer stakes her claim as a bold and intentional new artist to watch.
Born and raised in Gothenburg, Matilda caught the producing bug during her time at Sweden’s prestigious Musik Makarna school, the foremost songwriting academy in Europe. In creating her own brand of intricate, ethereal pop, her music is wholly introspective and relatable, marked by Matilda’s unique ability to juxtapose her own sugary sweet vocals with more dissonant and surprising instrumental elements. An assured and accomplished songwriter, musician, vocalist and producer, Matilda is already making a huge mark.
