Focus and many thoughts abound Ridley Scott and his sequel to the hit sci-fi drama Prometheus, especially considering the Alien: Covenant will have close to none of the original cast. Michael Fassbender, who plays AI synthetic David, is the only remaining link to the prequel.
Despite the film’s premiere date being a year away, the German-born actor decided to share a little about the upcoming film. During a conversation with Collider, Fassbender explained that Scott’s main aim with this film is to pump up the thrill factor.
“This Alien is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see,” the Steve Jobs actor said and added, “It’s much scarier than Prometheus but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus.”
Prometheus itself had a high level of fear and drama woven into the script and if the actor’s description is anything to go by, fans can look forward to a worthy follow-up. “It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema,” he said.
Alien: Covenant Premise
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they believe to be an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, dangerous world whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Alien: Covenant is expected to premiere in the US and UK on 4 August 2017.
