‘Midnight Rider’ director, Randall Miller, speaks out on explosive documentary findings

Now streaming, David Rollins’ ‘Trial of Midnight Rider: Railroaded in the Deep South’ hopes to help those involved by setting record straight

(PR NewsChannel) / April 22, 2018 / LOS ANGELES With the release of the controversial new documentary, “Trial of Midnight Rider: Railroaded in the Deep South,” the official narrative surrounding the tragic accident four years ago in Jesup, Ga. has been questioned like never before.

Now, one of the key figures in the saga has spoken for the first time to comment on the revelations the film has unearthed.

“For four years, all I’ve thought about is that day and how much it devastated everyone involved, particularly the Jones family. This has been something that’s been constantly on my mind… this question of ‘how could this happen,’” said Randall Miller, director of the “Midnight Rider” film and subject of the documentary. “I never planned on commenting on that day but with so many unanswered questions out there, seeing David start to piece them together is admittedly deeply unsettling, but also incredibly important.”

At its core, the documentary seeks to answer the question of how the accident occurred and examine the narrative of a story “Trial of Midnight Rider” filmmaker, David Rollins, believes doesn’t hold up to further scrutiny.

“There’s this prevalent misconception that Miller not only knew the production didn’t have permission to be on the tracks that day, but that he decided to film there anyway. One of the first things we uncovered was that couldn’t be further from the truth… he had no idea.” said Rollins. “Once we found that out, it was apparent that the entire investigation had to be looked into.”

Prosecutors maintain Miller was knowingly on the tracks without permission and ultimately at fault. He was then charged with felony involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing.

In addition to the revelation surrounding Miller, the documentary has no shortage of bombshells within the investigation itself.

“The part that really bothered me was seeing my judge, who is supposed to be an example of a fair and just system, chuckle on camera while admitting he handed me an illegal sentence,” said Miller. “It’s so surreal that I almost don’t know what to do with the information. What does it even mean?”

The film, a result of nearly three years of investigation and more than 75 interviews, uncovers a number of inconsistencies and inaccuracies that seem to merit additional investigation.

In fact, according to signed affidavits by Miller’s attorneys, they have been interviewed by FBI officials as part of a follow-up investigation by the Bureau. Both documents are currently available on director David Rollins’ website.

In addition to the affidavits, he has also made more than more than 200 hours of uncut deposition testimony and key evidence available on his website to aid future investigations.

“From the beginning we knew something wasn’t right with the Wayne County Sheriff department’s investigation, and everything we saw only confirmed it,” said Rollins. “Everyone who was affected that day in Georgia deserves to know the truth.”

For Miller, the truth has only reignited his passion to make sure no other families ever have to go through a similar situation.

“After seeing David’s film and realizing all the lies and all the mistakes made by everyone down the line, including by my own team, I am dedicating myself to further safety on film. Nothing like this can ever happen again,” said Miller.

“Trial of Midnight Rider: Railroaded in the Deep South” is now available to stream free for Amazon Prime subscribers and is also available on iTunes and Google Play.
