This month sees indie-rock mastermind Mike Krol take justice into his own hands by bringing his Ball & Chain Tour! These dates will be the first from Krol and his squad in Europe, as well as the first since the release of his Merge debut, Turkey.

Krol had this to say about the players he’s assembled:
Since this project is not really a “band” per se, I have compiled a collective of talented musicians and artists from across America to bring these songs on the road. The rhythm section for all dates will consist of Phil Mahlstadt (Chicago, IL) on bass guitar and Michael Sienkowski (Minneapolis, MN) on drums. On guitar for the US dates, we will have Kyle Sobczak (Minneapolis, MN) and Sean Lango (Jersey City, NJ). And in Europe, guitar duties will be handled by Elliott Kozel (Minneapolis, MN) and Shaun Owens-Agase (Chicago, IL). Bands that these guys have been involved with together or separately over the years are Sleeping in the Aviary, Rupert Angeleyes, Tickle Torture, and They Live Exclamation Point. You can watch a live video from the US leg of the tour here… check out the uniforms!!

To mark the occasion Krol has revealed a new video for the track “La La La”. Here’s what he says about it:

This is the video for my new song, “La La La,” from my inaugural Merge release, Turkey. Director/editor Andrew Van Dorn and I availed ourselves of Split Screen Technology to give you a sense of what it was like to be in a dicey part of Sacramento, circa March 2014, trying to make a whole record in four days. On the right we see producer/engineer Beau Sorenson, raconteur/co-producer Elliott Kozel, and me mixing “La La La” in the old school tradition: 2 a.m., tape rolling, hands on faders, no computers, no bullshit. On the left side of the video you see Team Krol living the Rock And Roll Life, which mostly consisted of leaving the studio once daily for a delicious Brisket Sandwich at Firehouse Subs. At no point did we think that anyone would hear or care about this album. Or that any of the stupid photos and videos we took would end up in a music video.

And if you want to find out what a “Turkey” is, you can watch this video of Mike Krol rolling a turkey when he took his band out bowling to celebrate the album release. Mike said, “I rolled a TURKEY (and then followed it up with another strike, so 4 in a row)! So we thought that was a good omen.”

Praise for Turkey
“Krol employs a delicious vocal twang that stands out against his subtly distored guitar… a solid collection of angst anthems.” Mojo
“Coarse, unashamedly poppy and – at two minutes each – perfectly short. Not a turkey at all.” Uncut

“There’s something irresistibly fun about Mike Krol… He smothers his elastic power-pop melodies with punishing distortion.” The Guardian
“Mike Krol is garage rock’s underdog that everyone will want to root for—they just don’t know it yet.” —Stereogum
“It’s catchy, candy-caustic and crunchy in service to mean melodies.” —CMJ
“Mike Krol has never aimed for the high brow, but ‘This Is the News’ is a smarter, more inspired take on unpretentious fun.” —Impose
