Mina Tindle Announces ‘Compass Rosa (Expanded Edition)’ + New Song ‘Ladies’

Today, French indie folk artist Mina Tindle announces Compass Rosa (Expanded Edition), out24 April on Paris label s76. This deluxe version includes three new tracks – ‘My Light’, ‘Chant Andalou’ and ‘Ladies’. The latter song is out today,  with Tindle saying, “This song is an ode to the all-knowing women in my life — those who always seem to sense what’s coming, for better or worse, and who still find the courage to keep going and move forward.”

Compass Rosa — originally released last November via s76, a luminous and introspective new album and her first since 2020’s SISTER — saw Tindle reconnect with long-time friend and collaborator Sufjan Stevens on multiple tracks, culminating in the duet ‘Heaven Thunder’ which Paste Magazine deemed sounds “like it could have wedged itself onto The Age of Adz.” 

The deluxe edition will also feature Sufjan Stevens on ‘My Light’, a haunting ballad about grief: “The song is about trying to keep the light of those we have lost in our lives… right behind the Sun… as a direction, as a compass”. 

Exploring themes of sorority, introspection and friendship as a pillar, these new songs build on what the album was initially meant to be: a gentle remedy to the world’s upheavals.

Compass Rosa was recorded in five days at David Chalmin’s studio, following an intimate writing retreat by Mina Tindle and her husband, Bryce Dessner (The National). The lyrics and melodies came to Tindle naturally — still deeply personal, yet more immediate than ever. The album was then completed by precious collaborations, highlighting its depth and delicacy: Sufjan Stevens’ voice brings a unique radiance, the string arrangements composed by Bryce Dessner are performed with great sensitivity by the Quatuor Zaïde, while Ben Lanz (The National, Beirut) contributes drums and synths, lending an orchestral dimension to Mina Tindle’s personal folk sound.

On 13th April, Tindle headlines Paris’s iconic Le Trianon, with guest performances from Matt Berninger, Bryce and Aaron Dessner from The National, This is the Kit, and more — tickets are on sale HERE.  She will also open for Asaf Avidan in Lyon this summer.
