“Exploring uncanny sonic spaces is something Miss Grit excels at.” — ROLLING STONE

“[Miss Grit’s] songs are bold, striking, and gleaming like chrome.” — BROOKYLN VEGAN

“Miss Grit’s ability to bring a raw and cerebral sensibility to electronic pop music has grown exponentially.” — The FADER

“Pop highs, gnarly guitars, and jazzy sax – what more could you ask for?” – THE QUIETUS

Miss Grit – the New York-based, Korean-American musician Margaret Sohn (they/she) – is a bold experimentalist and architect of sculptural texture known for deftly moving between analogue and digital, guitar and synths, and creating an immersive cosmos of sound with futuristic frameworks for their searching introspection. Today, Miss Grit returns with a new track, ‘Tourist Mind’, which finds them channeling the noirish atmosphere of classic trip-hop while adding a hefty dose of maximalism and a dream-pop sensibility. The result is a magnificent techno stomper with stirring strings, smacking drums and a hazy atmosphere.

Sohn is someone who often finds themself intrigued by other people’s inner worlds. With ‘Tourist Mind’, they meditate on the idea
of self-erasure, and embrace the power and intimacy of self-reliance and solitude, singing: “I’ve never wanted to be so alone.” Talking about the track, Sohn explains, “It’s about how curiosity for other people’s thoughts can slowly disorient you and make it harder to return to yourself.”

This is the first new music from Miss Grit since the 2023 release of her debut album, Follow The Cyborg, in which they built a fluid future beyond the gender and genre binaries, where a non-human machine goes in pursuit of liberation. “Like a killer Sundance debut for a young filmmaker, it mark[ed] the arrival of a singular talent, one whose homemade release contains more compelling ideas and freewheeling creativity than any of the blockbusters” (i-D). An Album of the Year at Rough Trade, Time & New Scientist, Follow The Cyborg’s release saw Miss Grit highlighted by Rolling Stone, Brooklyn Vegan, FLOOD, Best Fit, Electronic Sound, DIY and Gal-Dem as an artist to watch. Additionally, they performed for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s LateShowMeMusic series.
