“Julia With Blue Jeans On feels like the album Spencer Krug was always destined to create.” Montreal Gazette
“It’s an album of love songs in major keys, where Krug’s musical direction seems to have been con fuoco (with fire), con spirito (with spirit) and always, always, affettuoso (with feeling). Where can we buy the sheet music?” NOW Toronto
“This is the true departure: an album so intimate and romantic that few in recent memory compare.” Drowned in Sound
“A purified reminder of his core compositional abilities, and a more complete exploration of a side to his writing previously only glimpsed.” The Skinny
The opener to Moonface’s new album ‘Julia With Blue Jeans On’, ‘Barbarian’, is more self-accepting than self-flagellating, examining the past to arrive at its conclusions. The video features 1980s camcorder footage of three children performing a dance routine, and the shy participant on the right is a very young Spencer Krug.

‘Julia with Blue Jeans On’ is out now on Jagjaguwar and tickets for upcoming Moonface tour dates in Europe are on sale, except the imminent sold out St Pancras Old Church show on the 3rd November. Londoners unable to make this show can now look forward to the next one at the legendary Royal Albert Hall on the 27th January 2014, full details of all Moonface shows are below.

‘Julia With Blue Jeans On’ abandons the instruments and effects Spencer Krug used during his years in Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown. There are no programmed beats, buttons to push, distortion, or overdubs – just a piano and his voice. It’s less noisy, more straightforward music — a Krug-described love record. ‘Julia with Blue Jeans On’s no-barriers approach brings a degree of intimacy and self-reflection unlike anything he has produced to date.
