Moriaty – ‘The Devil’s Chair’ (Easy Action Records)
Treading a clearly marked path, the scuzzed-up blues tinged-come-fueled rock of Moriatly is nonetheless of appeal. The opening tracks of ‘The Devil’s Child’ promoting several to raise their heads, eyes searching for confirmation from a medium sized speaker array. Hailing from Devon the twosome are said to have a passion for showmanship, listening to agreeable early door tracks, ‘Belding’ or ‘Esperanza’ and you can imagine a highly fueled powerful aural attack, let down a notch by the four-four stable-rhythm of ‘Jealous MF’ like the energy and lyrical fare though. There is something to Jordan West (guitar) and Matthew partridge (Drums) that both share vocal duties.
A very fine start to ‘the devil’s Child’ that only set to improve it seems with the single ‘Dahmer Blues’ – possibly the culprit of many a guitar string issues, as you can probably figure, the track is suitably, with king-sized blues-guitar with pleasingly a break to the trad formula. followed by the first installment of title track ‘The Devil’s Child Part 1’ not much more that an introductive refrain come statement. later a bottle-necked intro reveals the full track with a lot more gust and attitude.
‘Dahmer Blues’
Moriatly on the evidence of The Devil’s Child’ have something to offer in today’s musical landscape, the album again of interest, different, authentic if not all conquering, a noteworthy band. ‘The Devil’s Child’ should bolster any appeal. 7.6/10
