Austin-based indie orchestra Mother Falcon will release their new album Good Luck Have Fun, on August 14 via Bit Candy. They previously shared the shimmering, hook-y “Kid” which was complemented with a gripping, cinematic video. Today, they offer another glimpse of what the album holds with “Water”. A reworking of the dreamy final track from their previous album, “Water” is cathartically transformed into something startlingly different with relentless Latin rhythms, dissonant strings, funk guitar and squalling horns, all pointing toward a more aggressive approach in the future.
“Water” premiered first with PASTE
Good Luck Have Fun explores a complicated stew of regret, betrayal, yearning and nostalgia for childhood, set among some of the most ambitious music of Mother Falcon’s burgeoning career. Doubling down on both the accessible and adventurous sides of Mother Falcon, the first half of the album soars with an emphasis on rhythm, concise arrangements and a wealth of hooks. The second half of the album is comprised of experimental instrumental soundscapes composed as the score to an upcoming documentary about competitive gaming.
