Mutual Benefit shares "Lost Dreamers" video
MUTUAL BENEFIT SHARES “LOST DREAMERS” VIDEO
NEW ALBUM SKIP A SINKING STONE RELEASED 20TH MAY ON TRANSGRESSIVE RECORDS
UK HEADLINE SHOW: 28TH APRIL AT BUSH HALL, LONDON
“Subtly colored by flute and vibraphone, “Lost Dreamers” dazzles like a sunrise that an Instagram post could never do justice” – Pitchfork
““Lost Dreamers” is not a love song, but a song in love: one that revels in its warmth and enjoyably disorienting power. It’s a song that recognizes love as not simply an emotion, but an invitation into the unknown” – SPIN
“Both thematically and sonically, “Lost Dreamers” is a calming oasis amidst the tumult of modern existence, a shining quilt woven from gentle guitar strums, sighing strings, and lilting flutes” – Stereogum
20th May sees the release of Mutual Benefit’s new album and his debut for Transgressive. Today, Jordan Lee shares the “Lost Dreamers” video, directed by Ethan Samuel Young.
Influenced by themes of surrealism from Chris Van Allsburg’s Being There, Rene Magritte’s Spirited Away and Beth Hoeckel’s The Insider, the video is a glimpse into a fantastical vision of tranquility where elements of New York City and its residents are disconnected from their bustling environment and placed into a serene natural space.
Earlier this month, Mutual Benefit unveiled new single “Lost Dreamers” and announced its eponymous competition. Fans are invited to share their dreams via the Lost Dreamers website, ultimately resulting in an animated Mutual Benefit dream journal.
Mutual Benefit’s Skip a Sinking Stone is out 20th May on Trangressive. A two-part meditation on impermanence, the record also acts as a portrait of growing up. It’s as equally endearing and patient a record as Mutual Benefit’s debut studio album, Love’s Crushing Diamond, with lush astral folk and intricately composed arrangements managing to appear effortless.
Mutual Benefit kicks off his UK & European tour next week and will tour North America in late spring. The aforementioned Lost Dreamers Contest is already underway and runs until 2nd May. 30+ dreams have been submitted thus far. All dream submitters will be receiving two acoustic versions of songs off Sink a Skipping Stone. Visit http://smarturl.it/MutualBenefit_Tumblr to view the initial round of submissions and illustrations.
Please see below for a rundown of European tourdates, and check his official site for a comprehensive list of worldwide shows.
