MUTUAL BENEFIT SHARES VIDEO FOR ‘AUBURN EPITAPHS’
THE COWBOY’S PRAYER EP OUT NOW ON OTHER MUSIC RECORDING CO.
Mutual Benefit – AKA Jordan Lee – has shared a new video for ‘Auburn Epitaphs’, one of the standout cuts from last month’s Other Music Recording co. EP The Cowboy’s Prayer. It was directed by David Dean Bukhart, who originally came to Jordan Lee’s attention when he posted a ‘fan’ video of a ‘Golden Wake’ from Mutual Benefit’s acclaimed Love’s Crushing Diamond LP.

Jordan Lee: “Making a video that really compliments a song rather than forces its own construct on the music is hard, and unless the artist comes to the table with a strong visual idea, or at least a director friend who they have a close personal connection to, to some degree it’s always a role of the dice. The truth is that none of us at the label or band really know director David Dean Bukhart at all — we first saw his work when he posted a fan video for ‘Golden Wake‘, from theLove’s Crushing Diamond LP, which we were all really taken with, and when we reached out about making a new clip for ‘Auburn Epitaphs’ David immediately got to work.

“He is somewhat secretive about his process, but what I love about this new video is how his use of found footage and corroded film images somehow effortlessly evokes the nostalgia of the song, and while the footage only tangentially relates directly to the lyrics, while watching the video I keep finding new meaning in Jordan’s words. For me it is that rare case where images give the sounds added depth.”

Previously available only as a Bandcamp download, The Cowboy’s Prayer was the real introduction of the lush orchestral folk sound that many first heard on Mutual Benefit’s breakthrough Love’s Crushing Diamond LP.
