Since their formation bis have continuously developed their sound, from their initial punk synth pop roots to tracks crafted for sweaty nightclubs. Sci-Fi Steven, John Disco and Manda Rin first entered the scene in 1994 and were soon the first unsigned band to ever appear on Top of the Pops, playing their unmistakable ‘Kandy Pop’ in 1996.

Debut album The New Transistor Heroes was released the next year, gaining the band a new level of recognition, especially in Japan. Following their breakout success bis continued to release albums, each one pushing their musical style to new limits, exhibited by their 2001 album Return To Central. In 2018 the band joined Last Night From Glasgow and released Slight Disconnects the following year.

The band describe the new album as “born out of a wistful, slightly corrupted nostalgia for a simpler era that may or may not have existed at all. A time before life’s realities kicked in and optimism remained the default setting.

The emotional safety net of Italo pianos, the same breakbeats on everything, the hoover synths are all in place along with trademark nagging, spidery guitar riffs and big anthemic harmony filled choruses – it’s pitched somewhere between an Indie Top 10 compilation and a Smash Hits Rave tape, equal amounts of Ecstasy and XTC.

As with everything bis though, this is no simple rehash of influences, Systems Music For Home Defence is undeniably pop facing, hook laden and as self-deprecating as ever, with the odd heartbreak along the way.”

The release aligns with a string of tour dates across England in October 2022 – Nottingham, London and Manchester. In Glasgow bis will be supporting Lung Leg on 10th December at The Classic Grand. First single Lucky Night has already premiered and received high praise on Amy Lame’s BBC 6 Music show, it will be released on 2nd September.
