Today LA psych-pop duo, SWIMM, give us one last reprieve from the inevitable dog days of summer with the release of their glistening new sophomore effort, Beverly Hells EP. The six songs that the Beverly Hells EP (24West Records) is comprised of are an eclectic array of diverse, meticulously arranged ethereal rock with huge sweeping guitars, infectious rhythms and arena-ready hooks. While there is certainly an air of good vibes to the soundscape, lyrically the band takes a more satirical approach, offering a cultural critique of the juxtaposition of beauty and the lack of earnestness prominent in their adopted home city of Los Angeles. The result is a remarkable six song effort that indicates we’re only scratching the surface of what will prove to be a very special band. You can stream the Beverly Hells EP now on the band’s Soundcloud or Spotify accounts and purchase it on iTunes (digitally) or Bandcamp (physical CD).
Swimm – “Beverly Hells” EP
SWIMM will be closing out the summer with their EP release show at House of Guvera on September 5th prior to properly kicking off their west coast run with Canadian noir-pop rock outfit Young Empires later in the month. The band will then make an appearance at CRSSD Festival in San Diego alongside The Flaming Lips, TV On The Radio and Big Data on October 10th before spending the next month doing select dates with Dr. Dog and weaving their way across the United States and Canada with Bright Light Social Hour. Make sure to check in with the band here to get tickets to see them when they’re in your town!
The band has been making a lot of noise with the release of three singles over the past six months. “Beverly Hells” (the EP title track) is an ambient gem. “All The Time” tooks us on a more psychedelic turn earlier this summer and, most recently, “Belly” offered us a modern take on the early 90s indie rock heyday of The Pixies and Dinosaur Jr.
The band is rightfully excited to get this release out there. When asked about what the Beverly Hells EP means to them, Chris Hess (one half of SWIMM, the other member being Adam Winn) had this to say:
“So far our time in LA has been the most wonderfully chaotic time in our lives both personally and creatively. This EP will serve as the first time capsule of our move here. It makes it really exciting to put it out and see what life it takes on on its own.”
With a beautiful new EP out and a Fall full of tour dates, SWIMM will be keeping the summer vibes coming for the rest of 2015!
