‘Seven Seas’ draws inspiration from the Filipino folklore of the Mangkukulam witch. Rather than retelling the myth directly, Kiara uses it as a starting point to explore how fear can take hold of the imagination, and how important it is not to let those fears grow out of proportion. “I wanted to honor a story from my heritage, but also write about how we can’t let fears manifest into something greater, and must be strong to keep moving forward,” she explains.
While her sound sits comfortably alongside artists such as Holly Humberstone and Lizzy McAlpine, Kiara’s approach feels rooted in personal storytelling and identity. Her focus remains firmly on songwriting first, building arrangements that support the emotion of each piece rather than overwhelming it.
Still developing her sound while balancing her studies as a college student, Kiara is carving out a creative space that reflects both her lived experience and her cultural background, shaping songs that feel considered, reflective and distinctly her own.
