New Music: Rubblebucket – Carousel Ride (Acoustic Video)

Brooklyn band Rubblebucket have been bringing their raucous, anything goes live show to the US for a few years now, creating a reputation as that band not to miss at a festival or when they come through your town. A 5-piece in the studio, the band grows to a full-force 7-piece live band, plus the occasional accompaniment of robots (yes, robots) dancing through the crowd.

The video was filmed on a Devonshire farm while the band were over in the UK last month, and has a great natural feel to it.

Debuted as Zane Lowe’s ‘Next Hype’ on Radio 1, “Carousel Ride” is the lead track to be released from the band’s upcoming Carousel Ride EP, out August 11th on Communion Records, which was produced and mixed by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Modest Mouse, Anna Calvi) in the band’s hometown of Brooklyn.

Packing one hell of a melodic punch, front-woman Kal’s sweet, compelling vocals do not quite tell the whole story of “Carousel Ride”. Chief songwriter Alex Toth explains:
“I used to run around like a heathen, howling poetry at the moon, dancing till dawn and waking up places not knowing how I got there. I still do most of those things… just without alcohol or drugs. A friend of mine calls this the ‘carousel ride’: pay the piper, go for a spin, then you have to get off and walk straight again.”

Summer 2014 saw Rubblebucket leave their homeland for the first time and head to Europe on a month long tour, taking in festival dates and headline shows in the UK, Belgium and Germany, as well as a highlight appearance at Glastonbury Festival.
Rubblebucket are: Annakalmia Traver (lead vocals), Alex Toth (trumpet, backing vocals, percussion), Ian Hersey (guitars), Dave Cole (drums) and Adam Dotson (trombone).
