Fans of John Martyn, Iron & Wine and Elliott Smith have something to celebrate this week as Alex Amen releases his specific indie breed of country and folk-rock.

We don’t throw the term ‘super deluxe’ around willy-nilly, and this reissue of Wheels on Fire original 1968 release really packs a classy punch. Remastered and phase corrected, Cream are sounding crisper than ever.

We also have some excellent reads for you, Michael Bracewell’s deeply romantic, dry-humour-laden novella fairy tale on the band that changed many people’s lives, including that of Rough Trade, The Smiths.

Sometimes you had to be there. Sometimes Terry McAllister takes you there. Laid out in the original way using marker pens and manual typewriters, the Bored Stiffbook is a must have for any person proficient in punk. Live reviews from the late 1970s performances of the Sex Pistols, 999 and Iggy Pop plus interviews with band members from The Adverts, Penetration, Menstrual Cramps and creators of the formidable punk clubs Roxy and Vortex.

Bored Stiff? Not likely.
