New Video – Benedikt ‘Vikings’

The powerful, intricate and sometimes introverted selection of songs on Benedikt’s ‘Soma’ EP showcase a prodigious talent in the making. The Canadian born and Berlin based solo-artist and creative is set to release his elliptical and mysterious debut  on       8th April. ‘Vikings’ is the first track to be taken from it and the video was directed by Benedikt himself:

‘I created the choreography with my dear friend Yorrith De Bakker, who is the dancer in the video. It was improvised in the moment of filming along with some choreographic ideas to sculpt the body language. He allowed the music to speak through his body. In the end his sense of drama and talent for embodying the song shine through’

Benedikt was raised on Vancouver Island, engulfed by nature and immersed in music and dance. Home-schooled by from an early age, he joined the National Ballet School of Canada at 15 and later moving to the Netherlands to choreograph a variety of works. In 2010 he settled in Berlin and began honing his craft, creating immersive experiences with no boundaries, incorporating both sound and movement.

‘This music project puts a strong emphasis on the body. To feel and be felt. To know is to move’

Benedikt’s music is expansive and exuberant, offering variations on a central theme. ‘Soma’s’ 4 tracks sonically cut through the white noise and are each accompanied by an image shot by Luis Alberto Rodriguez and a video, encompassing music, dance and film.
