EARMILK – “Welcome to your new obsession, YONAKA…The post-punk culmination puts YONAKA in the league of one of the most exciting new bands this year.”
DIY – “Rambunctious bunch YONAKA are stupidly fun…(Theresa Jarvis) could command any space. Seriously, she could turn a gloomy séance into a carnival.”
NME – “Brighton’s Yonaka are without a doubt one of the UK’s most unique bands. During their ferocious live shows, the four-piece blend fiery elements metal and head-banging-rock with slick hip-hop beats and grime’s DIY ethos, to create a volcanic mix that few can replicate.”
London in Stereo – “Brighton’s Yonaka may still be relative newcomers, but they’re carving out their own niche with their adrenaline, thunderous sound. Check out ‘Wouldn’t Wanna Be You Below’”
The unstoppable four-piece, YONAKA, have today unveiled their official video for their latest track “Wouldn’t Wanna Be Ya” (watch here). To coincide with this, the band has also announced a London Borderline headline show, which will take place on September 14 – general sale commences on Friday 7 July @ 10am (buy tickets here).
Quickly becoming one of this year’s most highly-anticipated new bands, YONAKA’s voracious, adrenaline-charged sound has already left its mark on the UK festival circuit this summer having landed festival billings at Download, Dot to Dot and The Great Escape, with a Reading & Leeds appearance still to come, alongside many more. The Brighton-based band’s latest effort “Wouldn’t Wanna Be Ya” – produced by Ross Orton (M.I.A, Kelis, Arctic Monkeys) and their first release through Asylum/Atlantic – has amounted over half a million streams in just a few weeks and has seen the band carve their own lane, breaking down genre boundaries as they go with their razor-sharp melodies, thunderous riffs and raw, powerhouse vocals. The official video for their single has been directed by Libby Burke Wilde (Royal Blood, Marika Hackman) and showcases the band’s exhilarating live performance; something that was celebrated at their recent sold out Sebright Arms show.
YONAKA – Theresa (vocals), George (guitar), Alex (bass) and Rob (drums) – are currently in the studio working on new material. Last year, the band independently released their tracks “Ignorance” and “Drongo” seeing them land specialist radio support from the likes of Radio 1’s Annie Mac and Daniel P Carter.
