In the second instalment in their series of intimate shows taking place in unique venues around London, alt-pop duo Night Games will be performing in the ex-operating theatre of a derelict hospital.
Following on from their concert in the F. Cooke Pie Shop in June, on Wednesday 28th September Night Games will be putting on a night and playing a set in the Art Deco extension of the Collective Temperance Hospital in Kings Cross, a Gothic-era surgery set up in the 19th Century by the Temperance Movement which played a significant role in both world wars.
The hospital has been abandoned for 15 years but a small section of the newer wing, established at the turn of the 20th Century, has since been turned into Camden Collective’s newest co-working space. Patient’s old rooms have become offices, and the operating theatre has been transformed into the board room (and for one night only, gig space). Interestingly, said board room has no corners to easily facilitate the cleaning up of blood post-surgery. Also, whilst 70% of the space is used for working, certain parts, including the top floor and basement remain out of bounds.
Of their series of shows Night Games have said: “This series of gigs in unique spaces is about experiencing our music in an environment not typically associated with live shows. We’ve chosen places around London that are strange, full of character and offer a different context in which to see and hear our music.”
“We jumped at the chance to play in an old previously abandoned hospital. Aside from its Gothic facade and amazing history, the opportunity to host a party in a building originally setup by the temperance movement to treat patients seemed way too good to miss!”
