Nikol – “Headspace”

Nikol is an alt-pop band who hails from Nashville, TN. After launching a successful nationwide radio campaign, the band’s debut album Bittersweet managed to land them 13 licensing offers for shows such as Keeping Up With the Kardashians, The Real World, WWE, etc. On top of that, Nikol has played at SXSW four times, Vans Warped Tour two separate years, The Inkcarceration Festival, and has opened for bands like Pop Evil, Failure Anthem, Icon for Hire, Eyes Set to Kill and more in the past. You can tell right away that Nikol has an impressive resume and it looks like they’re continuing to build on that with their latest single “Headspace.”

“Headspace” starts off with some synths rolling in for an atmospheric sound. Next, some guitar riffs are strung along for a sparse vibe. Once the female lead vocals arrive, the poppy riffs positively explode for a powerful pop flavor. I was instantly reminded of Taylor Swift and other bands like Owl City. Some staccato strings toward the latter half of the track was another great addition to the sounds.

I also loved how everything came together in the chorus to give off an intoxicating alt-pop rock flavor.

From the ground up, Nikol definitely has something here. “Headspace” is a contagious rock track that is brimming with tons of great energy. I very much look forward to seeing where they go from here. 6.710
